CUI guidelines for configuring equipment for remote working
The purpose of this procedure is to organize and establish consistent guidelines for preparing a computer before it is issued for remote work.
Instructions
Verify completeness of the set – check the functionality of the power adapter and other accessories delivered with the computer.
Inspect the hardware for defects – using diagnostic software provided by the computer manufacturer.
When installing the operating system:
Windows:
Install manufacturer updates, including BIOS, using the dedicated tool provided by the computer manufacturer (e.g., Lenovo Vantage, HP Update, Dell Command Update, etc.).
Install system updates via Windows Update.
Linux:
Configure the package manager to enable automatic updates for system packages, firmware, etc.
Install antivirus software (for an updated Windows system, the built-in Windows Defender will be sufficient) and assign appropriate security policies to the user (user with restricted control over protection components / user without such restrictions).
Encrypt the laptop's hard drive (e.g. BitLocker).
Create a user account:
a. For domain-connected devices, log in using the domain username and password.
b. For non-domain devices, a local user account should be created.
Install the Gdańsk University of Technology (PG) certificate.
Install TeamViewer client (from pomoc.pg.edu.pl), OpenVPN, Acrobat Reader, Firefox, Chrome, Edge, MS Teams, OneDrive, an office suite (e.g., MS Office).
Contact the target user to determine which applications and services are required for performing remote work.
Test VPN tunnel connectivity.
Test the functionality of speakers, camera, and microphone.
