🌐📱Eduroam EN (Android)

Instruction for connecting Android devices to the eduroam wireless network.

Using the eduroam network requires an active account on the Moja PG portal (access is possible with the same login credentials as for the Moja PG portal), the network is available for employees, doctoral candidates, and students.

Step-by-step instruction

Below are two possible methods for connecting to the eduroam network - just choose one of them (for security reasons, we suggest the method using the user certificate).

Using the user certificate

(for advanced users, a laptop or desktop computer will also be needed)

  1. Using your mobile device, go to this page

  2. Fill out the form on the page and click Generate certificate

  3. After submitting the form, you will see information about your certificate - remember its expiration date

  4. Click the Download certificate button

  5. Do not upload the aforementioned certificate to the device yet, as it will not be properly interpreted.
    Due to incompatibility of Android with the latest OpenSSL 3 standard, it will be necessary to repackage the certificate into a format understandable by Android.

  6. For this purpose, it is best to install the OpenSSL tool on an additional device such as a laptop. The tool can be easily obtained by installing, for example, OpenVPN (during installation, you should select additional installation options and consciously choose to install the component named OpenSSL).
    After installing OpenVPN, navigate to the directory containing the OpenSSL tool libraries. On Windows, this is usually located at:

    C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\bin

    In the aforementioned OpenSSL library location, open a text command line (the so-called console) and execute the following two commands:

    openssl pkcs12 -in certyfikat_uzytkownika.p12 -out certyfikat_uzytkownika.pem

    After pressing Enter, execute the second command in the console:

    openssl pkcs12 -export -legacy -in certyfikat_uzytkownika.pem > certyfikat_legacy.p12

  7. The resulting file certyfikat_legacy.p12 will be understandable to Android. Upload this certificate to your mobile device.

  8. The invoked certificate file should open automatically - enter the password to extract the certificate (the password for Moja PG).

  9. Give the certificate a friendly name, e.g., PG20230805 (where 20230805 is the certificate's expiration date)

  10. Set the purpose of the login data to: Wi-Fi and click OK

  11. The device will display information about the successful installation of the root certificate

  12. Make sure that the wireless network is enabled on your device (usually, it is enough to pull down the notification bar at the top, where the appropriate icon is located)

  13. Long press on the wireless network icon to enter network settings

  14. In the list of available networks, find eduroam - select this network

  15. Go to advanced options

  16. Set the following parameters:

    1. EAP method: TLS

    2. Certification authority certificate: Do not validate

    3. User certificate: select the previously installed certificate with a friendly name

    4. Privacy: use the device's MAC address

    5. Identity: enter your login to Moja PG along with the domain, e.g., s_987654@student.pg.edu.pl_ / iminazwi@pg.edu.pl etc. (if you have multiple logins, start with the "shortened" one)

  17. Click Connect / Save

The configuration method using a certificate is safer.

A connection configured this way will also work after changing the password to Moja PG (until the certificate expires).

The user certificate is valid for one year from the moment of generation, after which a new certificate must be generated and the saved configuration of the eduroam network modified to use the new certificate.

If you already have a generated user certificate and less than a year has passed, filling out the form on the certificate download page will download the existing certificate, packed with the password that was in effect at the time of its generation.

Using login and password

  1. Make sure that the wireless network is enabled on your device (usually, it is enough to pull down the notification bar at the top, where the appropriate icon is located)

  2. Long press on the wireless network icon to enter network settings

  3. In the list of available networks, find eduroam - select this network

  4. Go to advanced options

  5. Set the following parameters:

    1. EAP method: PEAP

    2. Second phase authentication: MSCHAPV2

    3. Certification authority certificate: Do not validate

    4. Privacy: use the device's MAC address

    5. Identity: enter your login to Moja PG along with the domain, e.g., s_987654@student.pg.edu.pl_ / iminazwi@pg.edu.pl etc. (if you have multiple logins and use, for example, imie.nazwisko@pg.edu.pl, start with the "shortened" one)

    6. Anonymous identity: repeat the login entered above

    7. Password: enter your password for the Moja PG portal

  6. Click Connect / Save

After changing the password for the Moja PG portal, you need to modify the saved configuration of the eduroam network to use the new password.

  1. Go to Moja PG. My Account tab

  3. First, you need to follow the instructions:

NOTE!

PG administrators never ask for the user's password to be sent via email or through any form – such requests should be ignored. The only case when an email is sent to the user requesting a password change is when the password expiration date is approaching, which is changed on Moja PG according to the procedure described below.
