Remote assistance (macOS)

Remote assistance (macOS)

The Helpdesk team has the ability to remotely connect to computers – to enable remote access, please prepare your computer for remote assistance. At the University, we use the TeamViewer application.

  1. To do this, please open the Terminal application (you can find it using the system search).

  2. Disable the GateKeeper service by entering the following command in the terminal window:

    sudo spctl --master-disable

[You will be prompted to enter the user password, which needs to be completed]

  3. Download and install the TeamViewer client from the website https://download.teamviewer.com/download/version_11x/TeamViewerQS.dmg and grant it permissions to interact.

  4. Re-enable the GateKeeper service by entering the following command in the terminal window:

    sudo spctl --master-enable
  5. After launching TeamViewer, an ID and a randomly generated session password will appear, which you should provide to the Helpdesk employee.

IMPORTANT!

Do not provide the ID, password, or session code unless you are certain you are speaking with a Helpdesk employee from CUI at Gdańsk University of Technology!

Please exercise particular caution when:

  • The first person to contact you claims to be from the Helpdesk or PG team, even though you haven’t reported any issues.

  • A link to the program or the program itself is sent from any email (even from PG or Helpdesk), along with a request to provide the ID, password, or session code.

  • You see a notification about an unexpected (unannounced) connection to your computer (bottom-right corner of your screen).
