Displaying the message source English Version

The message source is used to analyze the status of a message. It provides information such as where, when, to whom, and from whom the message was sent, or where it may have been lost.

Please do not paste the message source into a ticket or email sent to the Helpdesk.
Follow the instructions and copy the entire code into a text file to make it available for analysis.

  1. Launching Thunderbird:
    Open the Mozilla Thunderbird email client on your device.

  2. Selecting a Message:
    Choose the message you want to analyze. You can open it by:

    • Double-clicking on the message, or

    • Right-clicking on the message and selecting "Open in a New Tab".

  3. Accessing More Options:
    Once the message is open, locate the options next to "Reply," "Reply All," "Forward," etc.
    Click on the "More" button.

  4. Viewing the Source:
    From the dropdown menu, select "View Source" to access the message's raw details.

  5. Saving the Source:
    Copy the entire source code and save it to a text file. This file can then be shared for analysis.

  1. Logging In:
    Open your browser and navigate to outlook.office.com. Log in with your credentials.

  2. Selecting a Message:
    Locate and open the email you want to analyze by clicking on it.

  3. Accessing Message Options:

    • In the open email, click on the three dots (More Actions) in the top-right corner of the message window.

    • From the dropdown menu, select "View" > "View Message Details" (or a similar option depending on your Outlook version).

  4. Viewing the Source:
    A window will appear showing the email’s headers and source details.

  5. Saving the Source:
    Copy the entire content displayed and save it to a text file. This file can then be shared for analysis.

Checking the Message Source in the Desktop Outlook Client

  1. Open Outlook and Find the Message:
    Launch the Outlook desktop application and locate the email of interest.

  2. Open the Email:
    Double-click the email to open it in a new window.

  3. Access the Message Options:
    In the top-left corner of the opened message window, click on File or a similar menu option depending on your Outlook version.

  4. View Source:
    Look for an option such as Properties or Message Options to access the header and source details.

    5. Copy the content of the window

Hover over and click on the field to copy. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+A, then Ctrl+C.
This way, you won't miss any lines of code.

The message source code is useful when there is an issue with the email reaching its intended destination, or when there is another error/problem with sending emails.
